Privacy
The short answer: no account, no cookies, no advertising, and nothing that identifies you. We do keep a few anonymous tallies — every one of them is listed below.
Cookies
Not one. Which is why there is no "accept cookies" pop-up here of the kind every other site shows you.
Your progress
What you have read and which questions you got right stays in your own browser. Clear your browser data and it is gone, and it will not appear on another phone or computer. Your language choice (Hindi or English), if you switch it, is remembered the same way, so the site opens in the language you picked. Your progress is never sent to us; the only things that leave your browser are the nameless tallies described under “Counting readers” and, only if you turn the daily reminder on, what is described under “Daily reminders”.
No account
There is no login here. No name, email, phone number or date of birth is ever asked for.
Counting readers
To know whether the site is being read at all, we keep counts on our own server. This is everything it records:
- Each time a page opens: the page's address; a scrambled code made from your IP address, your browser and that day's date; whether you are on a phone, tablet or computer; the website that sent you here, if any (the name of that site only, not the page); and, when you move between pages here, which page you came from.
- Nameless tallies with no page and no person attached: how many answers in total were right and how many were wrong; how many times the WhatsApp button and the language switch were pressed; and how long pages stay open, in broad bands (under 10 seconds, 10–30, 30–60, one to three minutes, longer).
The IP address itself is never stored — it is used only to make the scrambled code, and because the date is inside the code, two different days cannot be linked back to the same person. Each day's codes and counts are kept as a daily summary on our server for about 13 months, then deleted automatically.
No cookie, no advertising. The site runs on Cloudflare — like any web host, it sees each request (including your IP address) in order to deliver pages, and these counts are kept in its database under our account. They are given to nobody else and never used for advertising.
If you would rather not be counted at all, open indicsaga.com/?noc=1 once — after that the count ignores that browser.
Daily reminders
Only if you turn them on, and your browser asks you first. When you do, we store: the long technical address your browser's push service (Google, Apple or Mozilla, depending on your browser) gave us for it, the two keys needed to send it a message, your language, and the date you signed up. No name, no email, no phone number, no IP address. The only thing ever sent is the day's story, once a morning at about 8 am IST. That push service carries the message, so it can see that a message arrived for your browser.
Turn the reminder off from the link in the footer, or in your browser's settings, and the address is deleted. It is also deleted automatically if your browser reports that it is gone.
Outside services
Two. The fonts come from Google Fonts, and the audio narration is hosted by Cloudinary. Each of them sees your IP address when your browser fetches from them — the fonts as a page loads, the audio only when you press play. Apart from these two (and, only if you turn on the daily reminder, your own browser's push service) there are no trackers and no advertising on this site.
Saved on your device
If you install the site as an app or read it offline, your browser keeps copies of the pages and pictures you have opened so they load without internet. Those copies stay on your own device; nothing about them is sent to us.
The WhatsApp button
That button only opens WhatsApp and prepares a message. You send it yourself, from your own phone. We never learn who you sent it to, or whether you sent it at all — only that the button was pressed, as one of the anonymous tallies above.
If you write to katha@indicsaga.com, that email reaches us — so we can reply. It is used for nothing else and given to nobody.
